Birthers as racists? The President's Birth Certificate was published on the web over a year ago. The issuing agency has publicly confirmed it's authenticity. Divide the country into East, Central, West, and South. Only a few in the East, Central, and West question the issue. In the South three-fourths of white voters question or disbelieve that the President is a native born American.

For this analysis, the South is defined as: Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, Virginia, Tennessee, Kentucky, Louisiana, Arkansas, and Texas.

What accounts for the regional discrepancy? Is there any explanation other than thinly disguised racism? See: David Weigel, The Washington Independent, here.
