Sarah Palin's Troopergate.
Alaska State Trooper Mike Wooten (Palin's brother-in-law) is involved in a messy divorce with Molly McCann (Palin's sister). Governor Palin fires Alaska Public Safety Commissioner Walter Monegan, allegedly for refusing to fire Trooper Wooten. A bipartisan committee of the Alaska Legislature hired a retired state prosecutor to investigate. Work to be completed by October 31.
Given the proximity of that date to the election, you probably shouldn't be surprised that Palin's attorney is being accused of foot dragging, so as to move the results of the investigation beyond the election. Denials abound. Lots of detail here, here, and here.
The investigations will eventually determine what laws were broken. You may wonder whether Palin is fit to be VP. Given that the VP is an aging heartbeat away from the Oval Office, here's another question. You don't need to be a lawyer to sort this one out, just read about what's already known. Given her obvious over-reactive and vindictive behavior, legal or not, do you want to give Sarah Palin the ability to fire the nukes?
