The NYT reports "Banks struggling to recover from multibillion-dollar losses on real estate are curtailing loans to American businesses, depriving even healthy companies of money for expansion and hiring."
When banks lose confidence in their ability to make prudent loans, the pain in the economy spreads. What will it take to restore confidence? How about accounting standards with credible oversight? Who can do that?
