The notion of six degrees of separation - the idea that if each of us communicates with only those we know that it takes only six steps to reach everyone on the planet - has been around for a few years. Opinions on it's validity abound. A study of instant messaging at Microsoft seems to confirm the theory and refine the number to 6.6. (Story here)
